Personal Safety Training - 2022/23

Personal Safety Training

Please note.  It is a requirement of this course that you must have completed "Working with People who's Behaviour Challenges" before attending the course.

Aim

The aim of the PST course is to develop and enhance an individual’s ability to manage and de-escalate potentially confrontational situations by reducing tension and creating a calm and safe environment.

 Learning Outcomes

Describe the origins of threats – people and weapons awareness etc…

Define different behaviour profiles – compliant or aggressive etc…

Interpret the attitude and behaviour cycle – warning and danger signs of conflict…

List de-escalation techniques

Relate to the 5 Step Appeal model – a model for asking someone to do something during conflict…

Describe and apply the key elements of the dynamic risk assessment model – specific to conflict resolution (includes the law pertaining to use of force in self-defense…)

Demonstrate practical personal management skills – physical skills that are simple to recall and apply, that may assist in creating safe space, breaking away from grabs and grips…

I would suggest that there would be a need to include pre visit considerations and links to any policies you may have regarding this type of task; (such as booking on and off, alarm systems and code/distress words in use etc.).
