Dissociation Training - 2023

Understanding and Working with Dissociative Experiences

Three-hour introductory training

Dissociation is a very common experience, in which somebody feels disconnected from their mind, body or environment. It is associated with some specific mental health problems but also happens to people without a psychiatric diagnosis. In its more extreme forms, it can increase the risk of the person coming to harm. This course will introduce dissociative experiences to equip you to recognise and respond to dissociation.

-          What is dissociation? From ‘mild’ experiences to Dissociative Identity Disorder.

-          Case examples and first-person accounts of dissociation.

-          How to recognise it and speak with service users about it.

-          Dissociation and substance use.

-          Basic grounding techniques.

-          Risk management.

Some people attending training may have personal experiences of dissociation or of supporting others who do. We encourage everybody to only share what you feel comfortable to in this learning environment.

If you have a disability or any learning needs which will impact your participation in the training (including small group exercises), please email psychology@frameworkha.org to let us know in advance. We will do our best to accommodate everybody’s needs.

There will be a refreshment break. Tea, coffee, and some snacks will be provided.
